Most appealing college majors to employers

Considering the career prospects of your academic studies is an important factor for college students to weigh. The National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) recently conducted a study with the purpose of analyzing the most highly sought after majors by employers hiring undergraduate students. NACE surveyed 200 companies to collect results, with most responses coming from larger corporations. Here are the ten majors that received the most “yes” votes from prospective employers:

  • Accounting
  • Computer Science
  • Finance
  • Business Administration/Management
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Information Sciences & Systems
  • Management Information Systems
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Logistics/Supply Chain Management
  • (Tie) Marketing, Economics

It’s clear from the list that there is a high demand for STEM-majors. Students in the humanities and social sciences might have concerns; however, NACE also reported that nearly 100 of these same employers were also interested in hiring students from more traditional liberal arts backgrounds (English, Psychology, Political Science, etc.)

In the end, while your college major will not guarantee you a job, it certainly can help increase your marketability to employers in today’s job market.
