For parents: It’s not you, it’s them

Parents, listen up. Does your son tell you that he’ll work on his college essays, but instead plays video games? Does your daughter promise to create her extracurricular activities list but then IMs her friends? Do you have a child who is procrastinating asking teachers for letters of recommendation? Are you pushing your child to apply for scholarships? And is it like pulling teeth?

Take solace – you are not alone! In fact, most parents of seniors are facing the same issues this very moment. One of the reasons that we created EqualApp was to make applying to college easy, fun and social for high school students. But we also founded EqualApp to give you (parents) an online community to connect with other parents and experts.

The college application process, in many ways, is a time for students to reflect on where they have been – and to imagine where they are going. It might be a struggle right now to get your child to work on college applications but they will mature and grow by the end of the process.
