About the program

Our Planning & Applying college counseling program provides families of 9th graders with a comprehensive planning roadmap, focused on guiding students toward a more concrete academic area of interest and helping to develop the skills and experiences that will set them up for success in the college process – and beyond.

The Planning & Applying program is all-inclusive and your counselor will provide unlimited support. During regular 1-on-1 meetings, your counselor will cover the topics below to empower your decision-making and maximize your child’s admissions potential – and then provide full support in the application process through the end of grade 12.

  • Development of college preparation plan with annual goal setting 
  • Myers & Briggs® iStartStrong academic interest exploration
  • Academic advising/course selection for all future grades
  • Extracurricular profile advisement focused on leadership development
  • Intellectual enrichment/academic competitions, if applicable
  • Summer activity planning, including support with summer program applications/essays
  • Preliminary college visits and demonstration of interest
  • Diagnostic standardized testing (SAT, ACT) and score assessment
  • Guided skill-building, including time management, study skills and personal writing
  • Development of college admissions strategic plan aligned with goals
  • Planning college visits and demonstrating interest
  • Development of balanced college list reflective of academic and personal goals
  • Strategic positioning to ensure differentiation in applications
  • Full application and essay support, including brainstorming, outlining and editing
  • Letter of recommendation writer strategy and selection
  • Final application review prior to submission
  • Preparation for college admissions interviews, including mock sessions, if applicable
  • Project management of application process, materials and deadlines
